Starting to read the Bible is a wonderful step in getting to know God and His love for you through Jesus Christ. Begin by choosing a part of the Bible that focuses directly on Jesus. I recommend starting with the Gospel of John. It beautifully tells about who Jesus is and why He came.
As you read, ask God to help you understand and know Him better. A simple prayer like, “Lord, open my heart and mind to Your truth,” can be very powerful. Take time to reflect on the words and think about what they tell you about Jesus and how He invites you to follow Him.
Don’t rush. Read a chapter a day if you can. If something stands out or if you have questions, pause and ponder it. Write down any thoughts or questions that come up so you can revisit them later.
Try to remember the purpose of your reading: to know Jesus more and to respond to His love with faith and trust. James 1:22 encourages us to be doers of the word, not just hearers, which means asking Jesus to show you how to live out what you learn from His Word.
May your journey through the Bible lead you to a deeper love for Jesus, knowing Him as Savior and Lord, and experiencing His grace and truth in your life.
