The Bible speaks extensively about love, revealing it as the very essence of God's character. "God is love" (1 John 4:8) tells us that genuine love originates from Him. Jesus taught us the greatest commandment: to love God with all our heart, soul, and mind, and to love our neighbor as ourselves (Matthew 22:37-39). This kind of love is sacrificial, putting others before ourselves, and is beautifully demonstrated in Jesus’ life and sacrificial death for us (John 15:13).
In 1 Corinthians 13, often called the "Love Chapter," we see love described as patient, kind, not envious or boastful, not proud or rude. It does not seek its own way, is not easily angered, and keeps no record of wrongs. Love rejoices in the truth, always protects, trusts, hopes, and perseveres. Love never fails.
This love is not just an emotion but an action, a choice to care for others and put their needs above our own. It is only possible through the power of the Holy Spirit in our lives, as we abide in Christ.
