Sin is any thought, word, or action that goes against God's perfect law and character. It can be the things we do that displease God or the good things we fail to do. The Bible tells us that "all have sinned, and fall short of the glory of God" (Romans 3:23). This means every person has sinned and cannot meet God's perfect standard on their own.
Sin separates us from God because He is holy and pure. It is like a great wall that we cannot climb over by our efforts. But here is the wonderful news: God, in His love, sent Jesus Christ to save us from our sins. Jesus lived without sin and died on the cross, taking the punishment we deserve upon Himself. Through His death and resurrection, we can be forgiven.
When we turn away from sin and put our trust in Jesus, God forgives us and welcomes us into a relationship with Him. This is not something we can earn; it is a gift from God. If you feel the weight of sin, know that Jesus invites you to come to Him. He promises forgiveness and peace if you trust in Him as your Lord and Savior. In Him, the wall of sin is torn down, and we are brought near to God.
